What is your purpose for renting an RV in Canada?
Not everyone is on vacation.
I know that’s hard to believe but it’s true. Maybe accommodation for a job site is needed and an RV is the solution.
But, for the rest of us who are interested in renting an RV for a vacation or travel purposes there are many things to consider.
So before you put your hard-earned money down on an RV Rental make sure you know what you need and just as important – what RV Rentals are available.
Are you planning on traveling long distances? Do you prefer to park the RV next to a lake just to relax and maybe do a little fishing? Do you need a motorized RV or something to tow behind your own vehicle.
How many people are traveling with you and will need beds? What are your capabilities for operating an RV? Do you have the required licence?
Why you are renting the RV will determine the type of RV you need.
Okay, now that I’ve overwhelmed you – relax, it’s really not that complicated.
Research and Compare RV Rental Companies
Before renting an RV, it’s really important to do your research and compare rental companies. Check out reviews online, ask your friends for recommendations, and compare prices. Focusing on the size of RV you need, budget, safety features and policies are all important when choosing an RV.
Note: Some companies may offer incentives such as discounts for long term rentals and off-peak seasons. Make sure you at least ask if these incentives are available.
What type of RV should you rent in Canada?
For a more detailed list and description of RVs to choose from check out
- Class A Motorhome – these tend to be larger than other RVs and are extremely comfortable with many amenities can be included. Depending on the unit chosen a special licence may be needed and if it has air brakes – you will need to have an air brake endorsement.
- Class C Motorhome – still a motorhome but smaller and easier to maneuver. A special licence is usually not required – just a regular driver’s licence.
- Class B Campervan – some consider these a small motorhome, but they are very compact and much cheaper on gas but don’t usually sleep more than 2 or 3 people depending on the layout. Parking these is much easier since they usually fit on any size parking stall.
- Fifth Wheel – these require a truck to pull it and come in many sizes from small to very large. One of the benefits of towing a fifth wheel is they can be disconnected, and the tow vehicle used separately.
- Travel Trailer – depending on the size of the travel trailer these can be pulled with a car or truck. The tow vehicle can be separated from the travel trailer as well to be used separately.
- Truck/Camper – Combined these can practically go anywhere and if needed, the camper can be removed from the truck so the truck can be used separately.
